A New Beginning

I was remembering some advice  I’d heard somewhere along the way that when you’re stuck and not sure what to write about,  write what you know. So much of my writing these days is not at all what I know. Although I don’t consider myself a true writer and most of the time I’m fine not taking myself too seriously,  I still don’t like sucking at what I do. I started thinking that if this is writing thing is going to be how I make a living, as it seems to be these days, that I should get better at it. I mean, if I’m going to get paid to write,  I should probably take it at least a little more seriously, even if what I’m writing is only empty SEO web content for a client who wants another 1500 words on yet one more particularly meaningless topic. I should still make an effort.

Perhaps the best place to begin if I want to be a better writer is to take that writing advice and start with what I know. So, while I have to stick to keyword counts, predetermined narratives, and limited subject matter when I”m working, the rest of the time I can write about what I know. I also decided I needed to learn more. What makes a good writer? How do I develop discipline and better skills? Well, this blog is a start. If I write a little something every day I’m bound to get better at this…right? Either way, I enjoy it and it helps me focus on the positive and let the creative out! So, here’s to Day 1 of blog writing. I hope you find something interesting on these pages from time to time. If not, I’ll be here anyway…
